Before the advent of winter tourism, Megève was primarily a peaceful agricultural village where the inhabitants enjoyed fertile and rich land. Megève, from the Celtic name "Mageva," meaning "village in the middle of the waters," quickly became ideal for more athletic activities, such as hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. Indeed, the first tourists arrived in Megève as early as the 19th century. The village then developed gradually until it became an internationally renowned resort with a stunning view of Mont Blanc.
